The Abel Tasman Art Prize is a great opportunity for students in years 11 and 12 at schools and colleges throughout Tasmania to exhibit their creative ideas. The ATAP was initiated by Dutch Australia Society, “Abel Tasman” Inc. in 2000 to celebrate the bonds between The Netherlands and Tasmania and to foster a relationship between Kingborough and the municipality of Grootegast, the birthplace of Abel Tasman. It’s a reciprocal award where finalists are selected to exhibit their artwork from which a winner is determined by a panel of artists and designers. The prize is three weeks in The Netherlands with a host family and the following year the winner is from The Netherlands who is hosted by Tasmanian families.
